As the only national art museum in South Korea, the establishment and development of MMCA is closely related to the changes in the domestic political atmosphere in South Korea. The director is directly appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea for a term of three years. Kim Sung-hee, who took office in September 2023, accepted an exclusive interview with Art News. She was previously the executive director of the non-profit art organization CAN Foundation and also served as a professor in the Department of Curatorial Research and Art Management at Hongik University.
